Introducing Sunrise Solar's Timelapse Video

Sunrise Solar started in order to be leaders in facilitating solar adoption, particularly within Sonoma County. The founders have themselves been laying solar panels since 2007 before creating Sunrise Solar in 2012. They had noticed how inaccessible and expensive solar was and had sought to change it.

Our collaboration with Sunrise Solar came from a mutual understanding for each other. At SoCo Videography, we aim to bring affordable videography to the small, local businesses and people of Sonoma County. This wasn't just about business; this was about elevating our economy and promoting sustainability. If more businesses are able to afford stunning videography, we can give voices to businesses that they otherwise may not be able to voice. With us, it was with video. With them, it was solar energy.

The timelapse video serves to demystify the solar installation process, all under the gorgeous backdrop of Clear Lake. This video shows a day in the life: a job performed across one afternoon.

How we did it

Timelapse videos can be a challenge. They require that the camera have endurance and strong battery life: a con of many of the high-powered cameras. We installed timelapse software on one of our cameras so that the camera would maintain low energy usage by taking a photo every several seconds rather than continuously running. The raw 'footage' was even larger than 4K, which allowed us to digitally zoom without losing quality.

Sunrise Solar came to us seeking out a video just like this: a timelapse on a beautiful backdrop. Meant to be without sound, it's a simple expression of what they did. The simplicity of the video allowed us to provide a quick turn-around time so that the video can be shown on loop at home shows.
